Research into what makes a good guidebook

Portugal guide by the lonely planet is a publication that I looked into, I found it interesting and useful as it was full of information and had an index page where each section was labelled with page numbers and a subheading.

what does a guide book have?
A guide book or travel guide is "a book of information about a place designed for the use of visitors or tourists". It will usually include information about sights, accommodation, restaurants, transportation, and activities. Maps of varying detail and historical and cultural information are often included.

Here are some reoccurring elements of effective how-to guides
  1. Clearly defined chronological steps
  2. Easy-to-understand instructions.
  3. Examples and visual resources.
  4. Understand your target audience.
  5. Research the process.
  6. Create actionable steps
  7. Simplify your language

This is helpful for a how to guide for citizenship and processes in which it take to move to Portugal, although this is only a small portion and will not likely make it into my magazine because that is not my intention to advise or talk about to the audience of my guide book.

Tips on writing a guide book:
write in plain English to make your content as understandable as possible.
structure your content so that the most important information is at the top.
break content up into sections that are easy to read.
use headings to structure the content and help users to navigate through the guide.

I have used the university of baths website for my research into what makes a good guide book as it has a page on writing guide books specific to students and I will adapt it into my magazine for the specific do's and don'ts's and how to title my guide.  https://www.bath.ac.uk/guides/creating-a-guide/
