December review

I didn't do as much as I would have hoped in December although I did anticipate for this and my plan had accompanied to my lack of time and holidays in December. Through the Christmas break I made a Christmas plan and I did get through and start every task such as research into guide books and mind maps with the information which I would like to include in my guide book/ travel magazine.  The start of January is going to very busy as I have 2 weeks of mock exams. I have scheduled this on my plan to give me a break to revise and during the mocks.

Language

Researching Language. Spanish is the closest language to Portuguese as they are both Latin based languages however according to https://iwillteachyoualanguage.com/learn/spanish/spanish-tips/spanish-or-portuguese Spanish is an easier language to learn this is due to the mass population of Spain (400 million) compared to Portugal (200 million) as well as Portuguese having 9 vowels. It is said that if a Spanish speaker went to Portugal without looking at the language they will understand at least 45% of what the Portuguese where saying despite the difference in accents. Population of foreign people migrating to Portugal Portugal is currently the official home of more than 590,000 foreign citizens with a valid residence permit – and this is the highest figure since 1976 Reliability: government services Source: data from the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF). Assessed 20-10-21 With about 260 million speakers worldwide, Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language in the world,...

Brexit and it's hindrances for moving abroad

What is Brexit? On 23 June 2016, the UK held a referendum to answer the question: "Should the UK remain a member of the EU, or leave the EU?" (By a margin of 51.9 per cent to 48.1 per cent,) the UK voted to leave the European Union, commonly referred to as 'Brexit'. ‘Brexit’ is the name given to the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union. It is a combination of ‘Britain’ and ‘exit’. Source: https://www.government.nl/ Reliability: the government website of the Netherlands. Is fact checked and links to the source of information mostly done by the civil service are on the website.  Since Brexit UK citizens ar e no longer EU citizens. In the past while the UK was in the EU, UK citizens had an automatic right to travel and live in Portugal (or any other EU country). There’s now no longer an automatic right and, it seems, that UK citizens will be treated the same as any other 3rd country /non-EU citizen (e.g. those from the US, India, Brazil or Australia, etc...

Education and higher education in Portugal

Education and higher education in Portugal Some of the top universities in Portugal are University of Lisbon (which specialises in arts and design, mining engineering and geography), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (which specialises in FAME finance, accounting, management and economics), University of Coimbra (which specialise in STEM science, technology, engineering and maths as well as arts and humanities.) Most courses – especially at bachelor’s level are taught in Portuguese. At graduate level, it’s more common to find English-taught programs, but it’s still definitely an asset to be able to speak the national language. In Portugal you can not rely on everyone being able to speak or understand English. It is on the secondary school curriculum in Portugal, however its often only basic level of animals and colours rather than phrases or fluent English. Studying in Portugal student life at u niversity of Lisbon “Lisbon (or Lisboa) is pretty much everything you could want fr...
