Work in Portugal is often agricultural based and often self sustained, however Portugal has a high popularity for tourism and the hospitality sectors, and as of recent tech related jobs and IT are on the rise with call center work always available.

It is illegal by Portuguese law for a boss to call or text their employee after work or on a day off.

Skills shortage in Portugal with incentive to move and work abroad. Communications (mainly call center managers), IT, Healthcare (doctors and nurses), Hospitality (hotel and catering staff) and Tourism being at the forefront of Portugal’s goals.

Unemployment rate. The average unemployment rate from the past 6 months has been 6.7%. this figure has gone down since February of 2013, where it reached a high of 18.1% unemployment. During the Covid pandemic unemployment rate didn’t seen to make a sky rocket like it did in most of Europe such as England Italy and Spain. It actually seemed to boost the economy due to people holidaying to more rural areas to avoid the risk of Covid 19 from heavily populated areas.
